FEROZEPUR: Following the orders of the Punjab and Haryana high court, the Ferozepur deputy commissioner (DC) helped an elderly couple take back possession of their house and land in a village of the district . DC Chander Gaind went to Chamb village to help Salwinder Singh and his wife Mohinder Kaur get possession of their property from their daughter-in-law, who had forced them out following the death of their son.Gaind also instructed the deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Rajwinder Singh and the station house officer (SHO) concerned to ensure that no one should force them out of their house again. The old couple had earlier approached the DC seeking help under the Senior Citizens Maintenance Act. Salwinder and Mohinder said their son had died and they had domestic dispute with their daughter-in-law. They alleged they were not allowed to live in their house or cultivate the land.Gaind, exercising his powers as the district magistrate (DM), had given an order in their favour to get possession of the house and the land, which was challenged by their daughter-in-law in the high court. The HC had given temporary relief to her by ordering to give her two rooms in the house.
Taking advantage of the HC orders, she allegedly took possession of the whole house and threw her in-laws out.Mohinder again appeared before the DC to narrate their ordeal. After hearing her, Gaind visited their village on Wednesday and arranged the possession of two rooms for their daughter-in-law as per the HC orders and rest of the house to the old couple. He asked the old couple to live comfortably and in case of any problem inform police.
